6 Home Offices That’ll Make You Wish You Worked from Home Everyday

By: Anna Popov

Whether you work from home, run your own business, or are an aspiring student, a well-designed home office is a space you can benefit from. Before COVID-19 only around 7% of U.S. employees regularly worked remotely. The pandemic forced millions around the world to spend more time at home and now 64% of U.S. employees are working remotely. With a huge majority of the workforce spending significant time working from home, the need for a proper home office and working space is higher now than ever before.

Another thing you need to consider is if you have kids at home who will also be going to virtual school. Creating a comfortable workspace for them for the upcoming year could be just what they need to stay motivated and productive. Just as it’s important your general living and work spaces are separated, your kids could benefit from the same separation.

A quiet space like an office can help you get down to business, focus, and get your creative juices flowing.  According to Forbes, new homes will include personalized home offices. The latest trend is to repurpose unused (or barely used) spaces like garages, basements, and extra bedrooms into offices. Another trend is that many home buyers are buying houses with these spaces already included. Having a designated office space can do wonders from separating normal home life and professional home life. In this blog, we have included photos of 6 modern home offices for inspiration.

Home office ideas & inspiration

An ideal home office would be a stylish yet comfortable space where you can enjoy spending time and be productive. It’s also important to keep in mind these key elements that help make your space inspire productivity.

  • Minimize clutter: having a clean, organized space with minimal clutter is immediately satisfying. With less clutter, you’re more likely to focus on the work you need to do for the day rather than cleaning your space. Many meetings are also going virtual so having a clean space and appealing background are both things you need to consider.

  • Lighting is key: if you have the ability to build your home office or working space near a window, we highly recommend it. The natural light and view of the outside can be therapeutic and provide your eyes with a pleasant break from the screen.

  • Comfortable seating: making sure your chair/seating is comfortable is super important. Your posture matters and spending long hours hunched over or in an uncomfortable chair can have negative health impacts. Select a chair that is both ergonomic and stylish and supports your body while working at your desk.

  • Keep storage in mind: you’ll likely have books, papers, and other supplies lying around for work. It’s important to be mindful of where to store these things. Thinking about storage and ensuring easy access when planning your space is key. If you’re working with a smaller space get creative with bins, boxed, and modular shelves.

  • Be strategic when choosing colors: especially because they impact our behavior throughout the day. Brighter colors will help you stay alert while muted and neutral colors will be less distracting and calming. When selecting your color scheme it’s best to do so based on your job activity.

Building a productive oasis

Even when the world returns to normal, it’s clear that a lot of the workforce will continue teleworking. According to Gallup research, 59% of U.S. workers would prefer to continue working remotely as much as possible. A home office (if designed strategically) can become your perfect productive workspace. Working from home can have amazing benefits like more time with family and pets and less time spent commuting.

Having an office at home that allows you to be just as productive as you would be in an office setting could be the key to finding a great work-life balance.
