IBP – Pantone Color of the Year 2024

By: Anna Popov

‘In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace, and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.’

It is 2024 and as always, our first blog of the year is here dedicated to the recently announced Pantone Color of the Year for 2024 – Peach Fuzz 13-1023. Before we dig in, a quick refresher for those not familiar with Pantone. Recognized worldwide as a leading source of color expertise, Pantone Color Institute provides color insights and solutions with their color standardization system of about 1,900 colors. What? Yes, remember the color wheel; well multiply that by 160. Pantone addresses color challenges with their approach that assists in fashion, graphic, interior and multimedia design, lending a hand to some of the major, most well-known brands globally.

Peach Fuzz is a nuanced shade, a nod to the delicate tones of early summer, it presents a unique opportunity for exploration with color in design for us here at IBP.  While we appreciate the charm and potential of Peach Fuzz, we also approach it with a discerning eye. We choose color for our projects very carefully around here so let’s explore this interesting hue and how we feel it can be integrated into design schemes with sophistication and balance.

Peach Fuzz captures the essence of gentle, sunlit mornings, offering a sense of comfort and subtle optimism. In the expansive palette of interior design, this hue can play various roles – from a soft accent to a statement piece – depending on its application and context. We thought hard about how we might incorporate it in our work or advise on how you can use it at home, and we have some thoughts to share.

While Peach Fuzz can bring warmth and serenity to a room as well as pair well with natural light, its use as a wall color requires a cautious approach. In spaces where a light, uplifting ambiance is desired and the style and period of the home makes sense, such as a sunroom or breakfast nook, this color may find its perfect canvas. Although we see it as a contemporary peach, we suggest a thoughtful approach when it comes to using it on your walls.

For those who prefer a more restrained approach, introducing Peach Fuzz through accents and accessories is a wise choice. Elements like cushions, decorative objects, or a single piece of art can lend a room an air of contemporary freshness without overpowering the space. This, we can get on board with.

Textiles offer a wonderful avenue to infuse color into interiors subtly. A carefully placed throw or a set of curtains in this hue can add depth and interest, particularly when contrasted against more neutral backgrounds. It can also be introduced in patterns within a more neutral overall fabric and used in pillows, cushions and even rugs.

When paired thoughtfully, Peach Fuzz can truly shine. Complement it with muted greys, soft whites, or even understated blues or greens to create a balanced, harmonious look. The key is to maintain a cohesive color story that doesn’t let Peach Fuzz overwhelm the senses.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Peach Fuzz, like any color, can influence the mood of a space. It evokes a sense of gentle cheer and warmth, making it suitable for areas in the home where a soft, uplifting presence is beneficial, for example in a calm, spa-like bathroom or baby’s nursery. However, its impact should be carefully considered to ensure it aligns with the overall design intent and emotional tone of the room.

As we navigate the trends of 2024, Peach Fuzz presents itself as an intriguing option, albeit one that should be approached with a thoughtful, measured perspective. In certain contexts, this color can add a delightful warmth and subtle vibrancy to a space. Yet, as with any trend, it’s crucial to consider how it aligns with the existing aesthetic and the functional needs of the space. At IBP, we see Peach Fuzz as a color with specific yet valuable potential – a hue that, when used judiciously, can enrich a design scheme with its soft, understated elegance. Remember, the power of interior design lies in creating spaces that reflect your unique style and needs, where trends like Peach Fuzz are but tools to enhance your vision. At the end of the day, if Peach Fuzz brings you joy, then Peach Fuzz it shall be. Now excuse me while I go hum that millions of peaches song from the 90’s to myself for the rest of the day.
