It’s All in the Details

Details, details, details – we love them, we notice them, we design them, we share them, we imagine them, we perfect them, and we get inspired by them. Details, both big and small, are the hallmark of a fully realized, designed space. They bring a layer of luxury that can take a room from nicely decorated to exquisitely designed.
Here is a roundup of some of our favorite details that we have been noticing lately along with some that we love about our own work.

Between the Lines
Looking at this room, we are transported to another time in history with the Pierre Paulin armchairs and major mid-century vibes. But for me, it is the beautiful balance of the structural lines of the fireplace, the pattern of the masonry connecting to the lines in the ceiling balanced by the soft forms of the furniture that give this space such an elegant, curated atmosphere. So much so, you can picture yourself being here and feeling like a movie star.

Tiny Additions
Sometimes it’s all in the tiny details. Just a minute addition, like this leather buckle on the seat cushion, can elevate a simple design. Paired with the texture of the seat and warmth of the wood, it draws the eye and brings an extra nod of sophistication. If you have to do a seat cushion, make it count!

Inset Shelving
Inset shelves give a permanence that regular shelves do not; not to mention the space saving quality they offer. Whether a small niche in the bathroom, a feature wall in the living room or a recessed bedside moment, we are all about incorporating recessed shelving to bring dimension and thoughtful design intent to the forefront.

Architectural Elements
Design details are not just small! We have so much admiration for the subtle architectural design elements in this living room. By simply placing that arched mirror directly across from the inset arch; mirroring the shape and proportions, it beautifully reinforces the architectural symmetrical element of the room whilst contributing to the uniqueness of the space overall.

Versatile Furniture
We recently went looking for a folding chair that offered versatility to a transitional space we are working on, and I was reminded of this beauty by the incomparable Italian-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi. Take a look at the wrapped leather seat, gorgeous angles of the legs and stunning wooden craftsmanship, swoon worthy stuff!
Design is all about feeling. The details we touch, admire and the emotions that a stunning, considered piece of design can create in us as human beings, along with the profound effect custom design can have on your everyday experiences, make this design world we work in so inspirational. We can only hope our contribution as designers transcends and inspires the designers of the future.
