The Complex Task of Choosing Furniture

We are often asked, during initial inquiries and design consultations alike; can you help us to just pick furniture? The answer is yes, of course. Although the mainstay of our projects involves construction and renovation, both large and small scale, we absolutely take on furniture projects only and often. You see, we believe that buying furniture for your home is one of the biggest investments you will make in your life. Furniture is just that – an investment and like any investment you make in comfort and quality of life, like a house or a car, it requires research, time and energy. Most people think that they can add a piece of furniture here and there over time and although that can be true, we are here to tell you that if you want a beautiful, well thought out, designed home that will meet your daily needs, there should be a plan.

THE COMPLEXITY

It is complex, take it from me. The process of choosing furniture for your home involves many decisions and a deep understanding of how you like to live in your space. There are many questions to ask yourself in this regard and having a designer by your side will bring an enormous wealth of knowledge and a sense of calm. Like every expert that you seek advice from in your life, our experience brings structure, foresight and simplicity to a complex situation.

THE CHOICES

Size, scale, color, quality, function, custom features, hinges, hardware, seat size and height, foam density, fabric or leather, pattern, texture, metal and wood choices, durability, suitability for children and pets, weight, proportion, and more. Multiply that by the number of items you need, and it is easy to see how the choices and decisions can be overwhelming, and mistakes can happen. When you have a full-time job and a full-time life, it makes sense to have support and a designer that will create the masterplan that ensures cohesivity and good design choices.

THE ELIMINATION OF OPTIONS

Most people tell us they have no idea what to choose when furniture shopping because there are too many options. We hear you! It takes a certain skill and a lot of researching brands, sourcing items from trusted vendors and developing trade relationships. That is not your job and too hard to squeeze into an already busy life. We do the work so we can have access to a large network for sourcing furniture, lighting and accessories. We go to trade shows to experience these items in person so that you don’t have to. All these things mean that you can rely on us and be sure that we have exhausted all the possibilities and eliminated the options. What we source and bring to you is the best option.

OUR PROCESS

We always start with function. We can make any room beautiful, but we really want it to work for you. Whether it is a design consultation or a full project, we like to begin with an in-depth interview where we ask all the questions and get you thinking. There are instances that I guarantee you have not thought about before or have not rated as important until you think about them in a certain way. Then we move to concept design and space planning. Selections and finishes follow until we have all the decisions made and finalized. Next, it is onto pricing and presentation preparation. So, by the time we bring you our work, you can rest assured that it has been fully considered, developed, budgeted and ready to be brought to you in an organized fashion.

LET THE PURCHASING BEGIN

You have seen all our choices, been blown away by our newly suggested furniture plan, viewed and touched all the colors, finishes and samples, checked out the budgeting and everything makes sense, you want it all! All that is left is placing orders and we can do that too. The world of procurement, expediting, receiving, delivery and installation is logistical and time consuming. We do it in the most time-efficient way possible and manage the inevitable hiccups that happen along the way.

THE BEST PART

You can execute this plan over time. So maybe your budget cannot stretch that far right now. Maybe there’s a baby on the way or a kid about to go to college. Maybe you need to replace the roof before you can splash out of the entire furniture package but at least you will know. At least you have a plan as life and budget allows and maybe you chip away at it, and it takes some time to pull together. This is a better use of your investment than purchasing pieces here and there that don’t work together, and you end up regretting. You are going to spend money anyway, you may as well spend it wisely; don’t say we didn’t warn ya!
